In October 2012, an inspiring new magazine was launched into the world. CAKE & WHISKEY MAGAZINE - The Sweet & Spirited World of Business was created for modern business women in every stage of their professional journey - and is full of thought provoking stories & interviews, and empowering ideas. "When women balance strength and spirit with a passion to share in life’s sweet indulgences, they can achieve great success in working to fulfill her dreams and balance their personal lives." states founder Megan Smith.
I had the incredible honor of being on the cover of the very first issue, which was a released as a 'teaser' until a full issue comes out in 2013. I wore a headpiece designed by New York trained milliner, Fielden Willmott, owner of Ace Card Millinery. It was absolutely breathtaking! Andrew Kung Photography shot the cover in their studio in downtown Louisville, KY.
The launch party was held at Table 310 in Lexington KY and was a fun, informal event. Andrew Kung, Allie Filley and myself were in attendance and a good time was had by all! Many thanks to Megan Smith and Sarah Jane Sanders. I can't wait to see what the future holds for the magazine and your dreams!
(Sometimes there is simply no need to be too serious about things :)
OH, the random fun things I get to do sometimes...!! Today on WHAS11's show Great Day LIVE, Angie Fenton hosted a video game 'Battle of the Sexes'. And this battle went down in a giant mobile video game theater called Rolling Video Games! I have to admit - it was WAY cool. There were four flat screens and you could choose any kind of game you wanted! Luckily, my girlfriends Morgan Hancock and Kasey Blackford were awesome enough to duke it out with me, and I met some new friends along the way!
I had some difficulty warming back up to the simple concept of video games. Growing up, my sisters and I weren't allowed to have them and I am pretty sure the last time I tried was back in '95 or thereabouts!! Since then, things have gotten much more complicated, and even require your entire body participation. I found my niche in "The Michael Jackson Experience" on Wii and FINALLY (better late than never!)learned the dance for Thriller, which you will be able to see in the video below! My mom will be so proud ;-)
As far as the actual battle was concerned, I think it is safe to say that the boys can keep their racing games. I nearly made myself motion sick on Mario Cart!! I will take the dancing any day.
Here is the full video of TV segment that was aired live without commercials! Enjoy and don't judge my moooooves!
Here is the silly promo that Ankur Gopal and I filmed for the show the day prior. I love having fun with things!
Over the past month, I have been so incredibly blessed to have the opportunity to work with some truly amazing women! Andrew Kung Photography was named the Official Photography of the Miss KY USA Pageant and we are all so very excited!
Earlier this month we held the photoshoot for the cover of the Miss KY USA Pageant Magazine with last year's beautiful titleholders at the historic and breathtaking Seelbach Hilton in downtown Louisville KY. It was an all day affair! We shot so many gorgeous gowns provided by Miss Priss in Lexington Kentucky in several lovely locations throughout the building. Every corner in the historic hotel was a perfect backdrop for stunning shot! And watching these lovely ladies float around all day in all these rhinestone detailed dresses really brought out the girlie girl in me. I just couldn't help it! I couldn't stop myself from squealing and jumping up and down every time they would put on a new gown! It was hard to narrow down the choices... but we managed to capture exactly what we envisioned for the covers and interior fashion shots, and then some.
My responsibilities included creative direction as well as makeup & hair styling, so as you can imagine, I was running all over the place! Miss KY USA 2011 Kia Hampton and Miss KY Teen USA Stephanie Jones were awesome to work with. Not only were they exquisite models, but they were great fun and such an inspiration to get to know! I am so thankful to have met them and I know the state of KY is so proud to have had them represent us this entire past year! Thank you so much ladies for you hard work that day and I hope I get to see you both again soon!
If you or anyone you know loves competing in pageants, be sure to check out wwww.AndrewKung.com or email him at info@andrewkung.com for more information on working with him and his team!

LOVE is in the air... and I don't know if you've noticed, but it seems like this holiday season was filled with triple the engagements than usual! I'm not really sure what is considered 'normal', but SO many couples chose recently - and especially New Years Eve - to get engaged! Congratulations to all of you lucky lovebirds! And if you're not one, then odds are that you know a few! Now comes the super fun part... PLANNING!! (No worries, it really CAN be fun!)
The great news is that all angles of your photography & video needs are under control - in every single way. Promise.
MANGO Photography specializes in covering every important event and moment leading up to the most beautiful day of your life and everything thereafter. But FIRST things first: You need engagement photos. And these aren't your parent's portraits anymore. Nor are they the unfocused & lifeless shots that are soon forgotten. These are striking and sharp, true-to-life moments that will last forever just the way you remember them. Engagement sessions are fun and quirky, sweet and adoring, and sometimes downright ridiculous! They can be a simple reflection of your love - or you can really get creative and reenact your favorite movie scene! There is also a full time hair and makeup stylist to make you look you absolute best for all of your memorable moments.
MANGO creates timeless Bridal portraits that will capture the bride to be as the glowing celebrity she is, flawless and complete wedding coverage (including epic documentary videos by Visionspire) and fun family photos for everyone to love. Book a memory-making day for yourself and your family soon!
WHEW! The past few months have been so exciting and busy! (Not to mention getting through the holidays...) But I have survived and have some fantastic new things for Show and Tell!
In December I moved to a new workspace and am now making people beautiful in the MANGO Photography Studio in downtown Louisville!! They specialize in epic wedding photography, bridal portraits, senior photos, family portraits, and beautiful engagement sessions. It is an awesome environment and also the Louisville location for Andrew Kung Photography. Their work is incredible and there isn't anything in the world of photography that they don't knock out of the park! I am their full time makeup artist and stylist, so if you book a session with them, I will more than likely be helping you look your best!
Have you ever wanted your own photoshoot with the amazing Andrew Kung? Well for Summer 2011 he has made it super-affordable... and it includes ME doing hair and makeup!! Woohoo! This year she and I wanted to do some pinups together! It was sooooo much fun! Stay tuned for adorable pics of our beautiful Kentucky girl and some behind the scenes footage that will have you cracking up!
Get ready because these two country girls know how to have a good time!
Last week, when snow fell for one of the first times across the region, most people came to a slow halt... but I was feeling creative - and coincidentally so was the G. A small roadtrip was in order, so he packed up and headed to Louisville from Lexington. We had a simple vision: To create a series of soft yet strong photographs that were simple, timeless and honest.
We did several series and shot throughout the day. I enjoyed being able to relax and be myself. With the goal being simplicity, it was a wonderful mental vacation. What a treat it was to just 'be'.
Here are some of the best shots from the first set. Enjoy.
Soooo a few weeks ago, the lovely Alica C had some business to attend to in Louisville KY, so I invited her to stay with me! We had so much fun goofing off and throwing around creative ideas, so we decided to have a little photoshoot... IN MY HOUSE! Seriously. It was a blast. Here was the result of our playtime!!
Alicia C Photography's second round of photoshoots in Louisville starred Laurie Johnson, Elizabeth Dryden, Tiffany Leake, Nisha Abraham and Whittney Dawn Allen. It was a steamy hot week for outdoor photoshoots, but everyone was fantastic and pulled through like champs. I even shot a quick jewelry ad for Shallott Lilly one evening. Alicia's work was impeccable as always. My responsibilities rested in keeping everyone's makeup and hair looking fresh and beautiful. Fun memories were made that week while some of us went to great lengths to stay cool and sane! Be sure to take a look at our work and visit www.alicia-c-photography.com.
Hello everyone! The first short round of Alicia C. Photography's shoots in Louisville KY has ended, and the second is on it's way next week... so I thought you may interested in seeing how everything went!! First up, we had the pleasure of working with the stunning and accomplished Brandy Fisher! She is a busy girl and was Miss Kentucky 2010 Runner up! After I created her hair and makeup look, we then headed for the park. She is SUCH a sweetheart and a real a trooper for hiking in heels like no one I have seen. She first set was in a beautiful blush-pink dress of her own and then in one of Soreyda Benedit's lovely gowns for a fantasy look that was breathtaking. The only downside to the day was realizing that it was in fact not too early for mosquitoes. Ulgh! Read more about her experience HERE or add her on FACEBOOK
Our next model was accomplished dancer Tiffany Leake from Lexington Ky. I was very excited to work with her because she is actually a very close relative of mine! The day that the shoot was scheduled for was doomed my mother nature so we had to reschedule for the following day which turned out to be lovely. Aside from the wind - which took ahold of the reflector I was holding and nearly turned me into a kite tail!! After I completed her hair and makeup look, we took a trip down to waterfront park to capture it in a way that hadn't been seen before. Tiffany was a natural at posing and had long legs and arms that were perfect for high fashion. But she had a secret - this was her very first photoshoot. Ever! And she absolutely ROCKED it. I think Miss Leake has quite a future ahead of her. Check her out on FACEBOOK!
...BUT before she went home, we both found the time to do a couple epic sets together. I think after watching two other talented women work their stuff, I was itchin to do something creative... and I had in incredible pair of shoes (of course) that were my inspiration for the idea! LOL. Here is a sneak peak... More to come soon!! Xoxo
The incredibly talented Philip Treacy has designed hats for many celebrities including Queen Elizabeth and Lady Gaga as well as many Haute Couture houses such as Chanel, Givenchy, Alexander McQueen, Valentino, Helmut Lang, and Versace. The great news is that right now you can get your own work of art for Derby Day at Peacock Boutique on Frankfort Avenue in Louisville KY!
I had so much fun shooting with these exquisite pieces last Monday morning with photographer Dennis Ledford in their chic Frankfort Avenue store that we turned in a temporary studio. The collection they have received this year is breathtaking. Nothing that I have seen has screamed class and sophistication louder. Each hat has such attention to detail and rich color - It is almost impossible to choose a favorite! (but if absolutely HAD too, I suppose I may pick the purple one with the hot pink flower... no wait... what would Gaga do? Hmmm.) Both dresses I photographed in were from Peacock Boutique as well. Make a point to get there as soon as possible for the best selection. There are only ONE of each style!
