The ROSE ISLAND PHOTO-VENTURE!

This past Saturday I had the opportunity to take advantage of one of the most beautiful days ever in the best way possible! I climbed aboard The Sarah Marie and Cap'n Steve Fante took our motley crew on a fantastic excursion up the Ohio River to a place with an awesome history that has been forgotten for years and has almost entirely disappeared: Rose Island.

This 'photoventure' included photographers Andrew Kung, Allie Filley and Jordan Cox. We frolicked through the woods and ruins, witnessed a breathtaking sunset and the brave donned a HUGE rope swing into the river (video coming soon!). While on the island We did a magical photoshoot in some beautiful historical areas.

Here is a brief video that is the intro of the full length one coming soon. Enjoy and stay posted for the full length feature!

MARASCHINO by Catherine Jones

For my few close friends who have known me for years, they know that I have lots of passions. That isn't hard to tell for those who even just met me yesterday! But before I modeled or even did makeup or styling, I obsessively created. I owe a lot to my upbringing on a farm with a mile and a half long gravel driveway and my homeschooled education which left me constantly finding ways to entertain myself. My mom would give me old clothes to revamp into new styles (sometimes secretly my father's, much to his dismay) and my grandmother would give me scrap fabrics to keep me busy. It wasn't long before I realized that you could make just about any odd, home grown outfit look couture with the right accessories! And thus at the age of twelve I became obsessed... with jewelry.

I was that girl who sold friendship bracelets out of a shoebox on the playground for a quarter - AND took custom orders. In 2007 I created a line which catered to custom bridal orders and classy, timeless pieces that incorporated antique and vintage jewelry and parts. As it started doing well, I simultaneously began getting modeling work, and makeup artistry soon followed and thoroughly absorbed the rest of my efforts. It was a sad day when I had to put it all on hold until the time was right to relaunch - and I am SO excited!!

I like to incorporate elements of freedom and movement in most of my pieces. And of course, lots of SPARKLE! I believe in the mystery of old Hollywood glamour and that at the heart of every starlet there is silly girl who wants to have fun, be free to love, and feel beautiful. I am cheesy you say? Heck yeah I am. But it's the truth and I think that will show through. ;-)
There are so many things to come!

Be a fan on Facebook - MARASCHINO FANS - to stay updated on the latest pieces, showings and locations.

Stay tuned for my lookbook coming soon... weeeeee!!!!!!

Keeneland Concours d'Elegance HANGAR BASH 2011

What a fabulous evening it was for two of Lexington Fashion Collaborative's designers Soreyda Benedit and Maui Crane as they displayed their creations during at fashion show at this years Keeneland Concours d'Elegance Hangar Bash! After the annual car show, a snazzy soiree was held in an airplane hangar at the Lexington airport. There were cars, amazing aircraft, great food, haute fashions, and even a salsa band complete with latin dancers! What more could you want from a summer night?!
A group of models including myself from the LFC put on a show for the crowds and wowed them with Soreyda Benedit's impeccable fashion designs and Maui Crane's exquisite accessories.

"Historically, Concours d’Elegance, or “a gathering of elegance,” originated in Paris during the 1920s. The Concours quickly became not only an event for automobile manufacturers to parade the latest edition of extravagant automobiles, but also a spot for fashion designers to showcase the latest styles. The Keeneland Concours d’Elegance is pleased to bring this tradition to Kentucky in celebration of the automobile, which consistently ranks in the top 10 attractions and events of Central Kentucky as awarded by Southeast Tourism Society and Kentucky Tourism Council." ~ Julie Meador for UK News

I am already looking forward to next year!

Sophisticated Living POLO SERIES Photoshoot

Fancy a Polo Match? Sophisticated Living Magazine just kicked off their polo series in Louisville, KY! I modeled for the Series poster and it was shot by Andrew Kung at historical Hardscuffle Farm. Keep an eye out for more sets in the future from the polo themed photoshoot. I love working with horses. I even got lucky enough to do a few shots on it! I'm crossing my fingers that one of those eventually makes the cut. It was certainly one of my favorite parts of the day!

The SL Polo Virgil Christian Tribute was July 9th at Hardscuffle Farm and had an incredible turnout! The weather was gorgeous and there was food, drinks and fabulous fashions throughout. There are three more games in the series:

July 23rd, John Darmuth Memorial
September 4th, Brownsboro Conservation Council Benefit
September 24th, Commonwealth Cup

I hope to make it to all of them! It is such an impressive sport and makes for a fun and exciting evening for the entire family. For more info call 502.582.6563

A WEEKEND in NYC

I recently returned from a trip to the Big Apple were I went in search of art and inspiration, and found both in mass quantities!
Highlights: Had a GREAT time staying at the brand-spanking-new hotel called "YOTEL" on 570 Tenth Avenue. It was super sleek and modern in a spaceage 'Jetson's meets Austin Powers' sort of way. It even had a smooth and sexy baggage checker named "Yobot" that checked your luggage for you! Nifty! It's definitly worth staying there for the experience.

The Alexander McQueen Exhibit at the MET is an absolute must see. It ends August 7th, so if you have to opportunity to make it before then I really recommend it! There are over 100 pieces in the exhibit. It is breathtaking to see the works of art so up close, and to fully understand what a huge impact he made on the world of fashion. The attention to detail and craftsmanship is jaw droppng and almost surreal. I could have stood in those galleries for hours just soaking it all in. Go see it before it is gone! Go here to read more about it and to see photos:
http://blog.metmuseum.org/alexandermcqueen/about/

The LION KING on Broadway = Awesome!!! Seriously, it was incredible and not just for kids... in fact, I feel like adults would enjoy and appreciate it so much more. The music, costumes, and energy of it was refreshing and uplifting!

"BOOKMARC" by Marc Jacobs. Yes, he has a little corner book store. And its dang cute. You can find the artsiest of coffeetable books and funky little things like jewelry and bags that only Marc Jacobs would come up with. There, I found my favorite tote of all totes - for only $35!! Check it out - 400 Bleecker Street NYC

I almost flipped when I walked through the fashion district and saw all the fabric shops! I was like a kid in a candy store!! That street makes anyone want to be a designer. So many colors and patterns... it made my head hurt. Next time I go, I am taking an extra suitcase to fill with beautiful things! Between the Alexander McQueen exhibit and all creative shops, I feel like it may be time to break out the 'ol sewing machine again! Hmmmm. Should be interesting!

Hope to get back soon - way too much to do for one lifetime! :)

FUTURE of FASHION 2011 = AMAZING!

WOW! The Kentucky Textile and Fashion Expo and the 3rd Annual Future of Fashion Show and Fundraiser was a huge success this year! It was the first year I have had the opportunity to be a part of this incredible event and I already know that next year will blow people away! The state of Kentucky should be so very proud to have such talented individuals representing it in the Lexington Fashion Collaborative! The entire day was equally exhausting and inspiring. During the Textile and Fashion Expo I walked for accessory designer Maui Crane. This years collection was intended to reflect the inner strength of women. He created an army of warriors as a result! It was a sight to behold and truly unforgettable.

During the 'Future of Fashion' show and fundraiser, I walked in shows for designers Brittany Murphy and Betsy Hamilton. Both have fun and creative takes on classic looks. It was wonderful to be a part of! Congrats ladies on two beautiful lines this year! And they were only TWO of the multitudes that took the runway by storm!

Backstage was relative organized chaos. The hair and makeup teams were going non-stop for hours transforming the models into runway divas. It was quite entertaining to watch throughout the day. I love the creative process!

The Lexington Fashion Collaborative did a remarkable job with this event. The future holds GREAT things them! Kudos to all who played a role in any part of the day.

To get a better idea of the day's events, pop some popcorn and check out the video! The first part is the Kentucky Textile and Fashion Expo which included young designers, accessories and local boutiques... and the second part is the 3rd Annual Future of Fashion Show. Enjoy :)

I LOVE MY FASHION FAMILY!!

This past Sunday was the equivalent of CHRISTMAS for the rockabilly/pinup/hotrod industry!!

People came from all around to check out the awesome cars, bikes, bands... and of course, the lovely bombshell babes that were found EVERYWHERE! It was a BLAST! The music was great and the cars were incredible. Not much compares to a hot Kentucky afternoon, homemade peach icecream, hotrods, hard lemonade and retro cuties!

Until next year...
